The '˜face of Saint Andrews' sets up support service

This week, Jane Whenham-White is leaving her role as Head of Income Generation and Marketing at the hospice, where she has worked for 
more than 22 years.

She is now launching a new bespoke service, Daughters In Lincolnshire, which aims to support families through difficult times when they can’t physically be there for their elderly relatives - inspired by her own family’s situation regarding her parents.

Daughters In Lincolnshire helps with tasks such as choosing a care home, managing finances, arranging wills, liaising with health services, moving home, sorting funeral arrangements, and dealing with home tasks if someone is admitted to 
hospital - such as caring for their pets and redirecting post.

Jane said: “I recently experienced a difficult few years as my parents needed more support. Realising that this was happening to people like me everywhere, I took stock of what I had experienced 
along the way.”

Jane’s mother began suffering with dementia seven years ago, and her father cared for her until he became ill. From then, Jane and her husband supported them so they could remain in their own home.

Jane said: “In the end, we realised we couldn’t cope, so I spent weeks visiting care homes. It was all very new to me and very difficult emotionally as we are a close family.”

Eventually, Jane’s parents were reluctantly moved into a care home near Jane’s home in Louth. Sadly, her father died shortly afterwards and Jane had to sell their car and house.

Jane explained: “I began thinking that perhaps I could use the knowledge I’ve gained through this experience in a positive way to help other people, and that’s how Daughters In Lincolnshire 
has come to be.”
