MARKET Rasen’s Steve King has become the only torch bearer to complete his ‘kiss’ on water.

The LIVES First Responder travelled to Rutland Water for his leg of the torch relay, where he took a boat from Normanton Chapel to the centre of the water to meet a boat from Whitwell Harbour.

“It was a complete surprise to me when I found out I had been nominated,” said Steve.

“I feel very honoured to be part of the torch relay.”

For more than 11 years, Steve has volunteered with the First Responders team and is now a trainer, development officer and the north-east Lincolnshire area co-ordinator.

Recovery from his own heart attack inspired Steve to train as a volunteer LIVES Responder, having previously driven his LIVES Responder wife Jenny to some calls.

And Jenny, plus their son, daughter-in-law and two youngest grandchildren were on hand to cheer Steve on at his torch-bearing duties.
