Market Rasen’s Memory Walk takes place this Sunday and your Market Rasen Mail team is giving their full support to the event.
Reporter Dianne Tuckett and receptionist Caroline Roddis will be stepping out and joining many others to help raise money for the Alzheimer’s Society.
Dianne and Caroline have set a joint sponsorship target of £250 for the eight-mile walk.
“If everyone we know gave us just £1, we would raise an awful lot of money to help support people with dementia and their carers,” said Dianne.
But for Caroline, there is a more personal reason for raising money.
Her mum, Isabella was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s and died in 2011.
Her father, veterinary surgeon Robert Finlay of Horncastle, also had dementia.
The Memory Walk has been organised as a tribute to two local women who had dementia.
Michelle Boryszczuk died earlier this year at the age of 44, whilst Marion Scott died aged 83 after going missing from her home last December.
And both their families are encouraging people to take part and give their support.
“The Memory Walk gives us the opportunity to really make a difference to those living with dementia and their carers” said Michelle’s husband Steve, who, along with his sons, has raised thousands of pounds already for the charity.
“It’s a great opportunity for the whole family to spend a day out together, whilst also raising money for such an important cause.”
The walk starts from Market Rasen Racecourse, where walkers can choose between a three-mile and an eight-mile walk, across countryside and through woodland.
Registration is at 9am and the walk starts at 10am; dog walkers are welcome.
