Shoppers in Brigg, who have difficulty getting around, are being given a helping hand by the new Brigg Mobility Scheme.

Run by Brigg Senior Citizens Group, the free scheme lends out a powered scooter for two hours on Thursdays in any period between 10am and 4pm.

The scheme is open to young and old alike - anyone who needs access and has long or short term disabilities. However users do not have to be registered disabled.

Membership of the scheme is available through Brigg Tourist Information Centre - drop in or call 01652 657053. Give your name to a member of staff and then wait to be contacted by a volunteer in the scheme, who will arrange a test drive with the scooter.

For more information on the scheme call Tony Parker on 01652 654542.

Brigg Senior Citizens also have two manual wheelchairs available to hire free of charge.

A wheelchair for short term use of up to a day is also available at the Tourist Information Centre, with a second wheelchair available for long term use of up to a month.

Public liability insurance cover has been taken out on the scooter and all the wheelchairs, and although use is free, voluntary donations are welcome.
