SPECTATORS of the torch relay saw double, as the event reached the south of the county.

Yarborough Academy year ten sporting twins, William and Robert May were part of the once in a lifetime experience, as they carried the flame through the village of Thurlby.

Nominated by their family for their contribution to sport in and out of school, William and Robert became two the 106 torchbearers last Wednesday, July 4.

The twins’ participation in the leadership of a Tuesday evening club, where they helped to introduce new sports to motivate children, was a large reason for their nominations.

Their nominations mentioned how Robert had been chosen by his school to represent them with the Youth Sport Trust in Lincolnshire to attend Young People Leading the Way Conference and William had given positive contributions to sports in his community, such as cricket and football.

Both boys are highly respected by teachers and their peers.

“I was honoured to have represented Yarborough Academy, my family and friends in the Olympic torch relay,” said William.

And following the event, Robert said: “It was tremendous.

“It was a busy crowd and a supporting atmosphere.”
