Plans for a new £793,000 state-of-the-art community hall will be unveiled to the public at a family fun day in Newtoft this weekend.

Toft Newton Village Hall Association managed to secure the Big Lottery Fund’s largest ever grant given to a Lincolnshire community - and now plans are in place for a new community facility to replace the existing
‘shed’.

Members of the village hall association are keen for the public to see the plans and be involved in the
project.

And they are putting up a big display as part of a family fun day at Newtoft Social Club on Saturday, July
25.

The existing building - often referred to as the ‘shed’ or the ‘hut’ - is in a bad state of repair, with many structural problems.

But the new eco-friendly building will have a social club, village hall, a bar, a community shop and changing rooms with showers for the local football
team.

It will be available to hire for functions and there is already interest from people keen to put on karate lessons and craft
classes.

Building work is due to start in October and the community facility is expected to open early next year.

The new hall will serve Newtoft, Newton by Toft and Toft next Newton.

Toft Newton Village Hall Association chairman Don Pavia said: “It’ll make a massive difference to the area - that’s one of the reasons we’ve managed to get the
funding.

“At the moment people have got nothing.”

The social club serves as everything from a polling station, to a youth club and bingo hall.

Mr Pavia said: “It’s well past its use-by date, the building is falling
apart.

“It wouldn’t have lasted much longer and the upkeep was getting
expensive.

“We’re all just very excited now we’ve got funding - and things are going to
change.”

The village hall association has been trying to secure funding for about eight years - and after several failed attempts received good news back in June.

The family fun day will start at 12pm and will include a host of free activities and live music.
