A CAISTOR couple have marked their ruby wedding anniversary by raising money for charity.
Lesley and Keith King, of Westwold Road, celebrated the big event with a party for family and friends at Nettleton Lodge, 40 years to the day that they tied the knot, April 10, 1971.
And instead of presents, the couple asked their guests to make a donation to their charity collection.
The £250 raised will be split between St Andrew’s Children’s Hospice at Grimsby and the neurological department at Sheffield’s Royal Hallamshire Hospital, where Lesley underwent a life-enhancing operation to treat dystonia last year.
“We would like to thank everyone who celebrated with us and donated money to charity,” said Lesley.
“We were only 17 and 18 when we married and they said it wouldn’t last.
“I would like to say a special thank you to my husband, who has always been there for me.”
An extra surprise for the ruby couple came from their daughter Julie and son Neil.
Julie had organised the anniversary cake as an exact replica of the couple’s wedding day cake, complete with a copy of Lesley’s flower posy as a decoration.
“I knew Julie was arranging a cake, but this really was beautiful and so much thought had gone into it.”
