A former police special inspector has vowed to write to Lincolnshire Road Safety Partnership and the county council’s highways department over safety concerns in Market Rasen.

Peter Hickin, 88, wants John Street to be pedestrianised and Dear Street and Kilnwell Road to be made one-
way.

Mr Hickin - whose fears were reported in the Rasen Mail last July - says people with prams and mobility scooters are forced to walk on the road because the paths are not wide enough.

And he claims drivers travelling from the Middle Rasen direction are using Dear Street and Kilnwell Road as a ‘rat run’, avoiding the town centre traffic lights on their way to Tesco.

Mr Hickin said he is now losing his eyesight but that it would not halt his campaign. He said: “That’s not going to stop me, it makes it more important.

“I’m going no-where.”
