PCSO Neil Harrison said: “Obviously due to the large amount of damage and similar incidents that Storm Doris caused, the Highways Department was exceptionally busy and could not attend every such incident.

“When this happens we often rely on decent members of the public who are mostly more than happy to step in and help.

“Three boys from M & J Harvesting at Snelland stopped their work in a nearby beet field and attended the scene with some pretty large machinery and spent several hours clearing the tree and another gentleman from Canwick was in possession of a chain saw and assisted with cutting through the extremely large branches.

“Thanks to them for their assistance and extreme hard work.

“Without them I am sure the road closure would have been in place for many hours more, causing disruption to our local community.

“May I say also they all did this with huge grins upon the faces.”
