Brigg has two local winners to celebrate after the announcements of the North Lincolnshire Community Champion Awards.
This year, the council received 156 nominations for the awards - more than last year - which go to individuals or clubs who deserve recognition for the time they’ve dedicated to volunteering, overcoming barriers or excelling in a sport or the arts.
The Lifetime Achievement award was given posthumously to Brigg’s Jim Allcroft, who died earlier this year, with Maureen Glossop named as runner-up for her service as Co-ordinator of the Brigg Poppy Appeal.
Brigg’s second winners, in the Community Sports Team of the Year Award, sponsored by Scunthorpe United Community Sports and Education Trust, were Brigg Gymnastic Club.
And Brigg also featured in the entertainment at the presentation evening, which was held at The Baths Hall in Scunthorpe, with the Vale Academy Band invited to play.
“The North Lincolnshire Community Champion Awards provides a fantastic opportunity to really showcase our many talented and deserving people who have done and in many cases continue to do something special,” said Coun John Briggs, Deputy Leader at North Lincolnshire Council.
“It was really hard whittling the 150 or so nominations down to just 47, as they all deserve recognition.
“A lot of hard work has gone into organising the event and I want to thank those involved. Plus the sponsors for their tremendous support. It is good to see local businesses backing the awards.”
Well known radio presenter Blair Jacobs compered the evening and announced the 22 award winners.
