“Springs Parade is an absolute disgrace” - that was the verdict of Brigg Town Councillors at their monthly meeting when they discussed litter problems in the town centre.
The clerk had received an email from a resident pointing out the collection of windblown takeaway wrappers, cartons, and thrown away bottles at the location.
Councillors needed no reminding as Mike Campion said: “The fault is of course with people who throw their litter there.
“It is owned by Tesco and they have a responsibility to clean it up.
“We need to get the message over to them that it needs tidying up twice a week.”
There was general concern that what should be an attractive location on the riverside to shoppers and visitors alike is giving a bad impression of the town.
Coun Rob Waltham said: “The MP Andrew Percy has taken this issue up; there are though broader issues about maintenance.
“Tesco need a strong letter reminding them of their responsibility. One problem is that litter from here blows around and gets into the river. I am concerned about the impact of this on the economy.”
The clerk is to send a letter to Tesco.
Broader issues on maintenance will be addressed and the takeaway will be provided with a bin.
