Council helping town residents to hit the weights

Keeping in shape just got a whole lot easier for residents in Market Rasen after the town council unveiled a brand new suite of outdoor gym equipment on De Aston Field.

The free equipment uses your own body weight as resistance and is suitable for any aged 15 and over.

Mayor John Matthews said: “It’s another step forward to providing the town with leisure facilities.

“Leisure facilities are something the town desperately needs. We’re currently in discussions with Lincolnshire Sports Partnership for future schemes. We have no clubs in town, no running club, no badminton club, no netball club and they are going to do some research for us as to what the appetite for leisure is.

“They are also very good at recruiting volunteers to run these clubs. We’re looking at holding an open day in January to recruit these volunteers.”

The equipment was purchased using section 106 money, given to the town council by housing developers for the provision of leisure facilities in the town, and a £2,250 grant from West Lindsey District Councillor Ken Bridger’s initiative fund.
