The funeral service for Ronald Buffham of Caistor was held at the parish church and Woodlands Crematorium, Scunthorpe.

The Rev Canon Ian Robinson officiated at the service and arrangements were by J W Varlow & Son.

Ron was born in August 1920, the sixth of nine children.

He started life in Bigby, spending his childhood in Kirmington.

Working life began in agriculture, just like his brothers, as a ‘shire boy’ looking after horses used for ploughing.

Once tractors came along, Ron started working on the repair and maintenance of farm machinery.

The year after WWII ended, he married Mary and they moved to Caistor, where they brought up their three children.

Ron worked at Lincolnshire Motors and ended up as foreman before moving to Appleby’s coaches, where he worked as a coach mechanic until his retirement.

During his working life, he became a retained fireman in Caistor, serving for 30 years before retiring at the age of 63.

Ron was a life-long racing pigeon enthusiast and became President of his local club.
