A service celebrating the life of Ron Westman was held at Faldingworth Chapel on February 26. The service was led by Reverend Canon Alan Robson.

In his early years he worked on the farm, then he moved to be a Civilian Storeman at RAF Faldingworth and then RAF Scampton until he retired. He was awarded the Imperial Service Medal for “Meritorious services”

He enjoyed motoring, gardening, sport and socialising in the village. He played football for Dunholme Rovers and managed Faldingworth Football Club in the late ‘70s to much success in the West Lindsey League and won several cups, including two at Sincil Bank, Lincoln.

He was a founder member of the Lindsey Rural Players, and played Dr Grimwig in their first production of Oliver in Market Rasen Church Hut in 1969. He took an active part in 1971 converting Wickenby Chapel to the theatre that is still used today. His main role from then on was with the stage lighting for the theatre.

He was much involved in village life. He helped run the table tennis club and youth club which were well attended and enjoyed. He was a member of the indoor bowls, short tennis club and Friendship Club. He also joined Welton Sports and Social Club and made many friends there.
