The funeral service for Dennis George Parrott, aged 90 years of Caistor, was held at Grimsby Crematorium.
Stephanie Heywood officiated at the service and arrangements were by J Marshall of Market Rasen.
Born at Old Crosby, Scunthorpe,Dennis was part of a family of five children.
When he first left school, he went to work in a butchery, before going to work at Normanby Park Steelworks as first ladleman.
While working there, he met and married Vera and they raised six children - Susan, Martin, Elizabeth, Colin, Helen and Sarah.
Dennis was called up for National Service in the army at the age of 22 and served with the Royal Engineers in Germany for two years.
He returned to Scunthorpe Steelworks, where he worked as Pitside Foreman for many years.
In later years, he worked as store manager for West Cumberland Farmers in Market Rasen.
In his retirement, Dennis enjoyed gardening, reading and walking in the countryside.
He will be sadly missed by all his family and friends.
Family mourners were: Mr and Mrs M Parrott, Mr and Mrs C Parrott (sons and daughters-in-law); Miss S Parrott and Mr A Powell (daughter and partner); Robert Hinch, Rebecca Hinch, Sarah Hinch, Sally Miller, Vicki Young, Kate Ducksbury, Alex Lloyd, Martin Lloyd, Edward Parrott, Helen Parrott, Anita Parrott and Lee, Christopher Parrott (grandchildren); Hannah Lloyd, Lucy Lloyd, Rachel and Nicki Smith (great-grandchildren).
