MARKET Rasen musicians Peter Hickin and Tom Smith struck the right note when they marked Armed Forces Day.

Dressed in his war years’ ENSA uniform, Peter on accordion and Tom on the banjo performed their popular repertoire for almost three hours outside the town’s Co-op store.

And in doing so, the musical duo raised £254.05 for the Royal British Legion.

“This is more than we have collected in previous years – we even had £60 in £10 notes thrown in.

“It was such a successful day in the middle of a recession; people still seem to enjoy the music and make the best of Armed Forces Day.”

This is the third time the pair have supported the Tealby and Market Rasen RBL branch in this way.

“We are very grateful to Peter and Tom for their support and thank the many members of the public for their generous donations,” said branch spokesman Brian Marshall.

“Grateful thanks also go to the Co-op for allowing them to play.”
