FORMER Caistor Grammar School student Lucy Mancer and her husband Jez have smashed the record for a married couple in the London Marathon.
The couple, who run for Benfleet Running Club, now enter the Guinness Book of Records.
“Jez did 2.44 and I did 3.02, that’s a combined time of 5 hours 46 mins, which is 13 minutes under the record held by Mr and Mrs Wilkinson and set in 2009,” said a delighted Lucy, who also set a personal best over the course.
“It was an amazing moment and we even met the previous record holder at the finish line.”
It came to the couple’s attention last year that the 5 hour 59 mins aggregate married couple world record was within their grasp.
Jez and Lucy trained really hard for the event, with 60-mile training weeks while holding down full-time jobs.
The couple also took the opportunity of the record attempt to raise funds for two charities – Bosom Pals and The Dogs Trust.
Jez has worked previously with Bosom Pals at Southend to assist their fundraising
Lucy is keen to support a charity where rescue dogs, like her own pet, who is also her training partner, are rehomed.
The marathon and record may be complete, but there is still time to support the couple’s chosen charities.
So far, they have managed to raise more than £1,500 for the charities.
