Young Rasen musicians impress judges at Rotary competition

Winner in the 11-13 age group was Isobella Dickson, whose cello playing showed a maturity way beyond her years. She demonstrated both technical skill and sensitive interpretation in both a classical sonata and the popular ‘Orientale’ by the Russian Composer Cui.

Isobella narrowly defeated last year’s winner, Felicity Turner, also from De Aston School, who showed her versatility with an Irish folk song before captivating listeners with a moving performance of On my own from ‘Les Miserables’.

In the 14-18 age group, young singer Bobbie Brader wowed the audience with two musical theatre classics - ‘There are worse things I could do’ from ‘Grease’ and a vivacious version of ‘Don’t rain on my parade’.

All three were sponsored by the Rotary Club of Market Rasen.

The competition is open to young people from a district covering Sheffield, Doncaster and the whole of North Lincolnshire to the Humber.

As the judges commented, the overall standard was very high.
