Walkers hope to raise more than £5000 for De Aston projects.
Tuesday 12noon ORGANISERS of De Aston School's bi-annual walk, hope to have beaten the £5000 raised at last year's school pop festival De Astonbury, in sponsorship money.
Around 700 students took part in the walk, together with about 20 teachers, with all other teachers taking on roles as stewards along the 12 mile route across the Wolds.
The event has now been running for 30 years and gives the school the chance, not just to raise money for school funds, but also to allow them the chance to experience and interact with the countryside and community around the school.
This year the money raised will be donated to a local school project to be shortlisted by the pupil's own School Council and presented to the head, Ellenor Beighton, for a final decision.
Organiser Julie Taylor said the weather on the day was ideal for walking - slightly overcast and with a little breeze.
"We will be asking the School Council for ideas for community resources to benefit all the students and will be examining all the various ideas," she said.
"We hope to have beaten the 5000 raised by De Astonbury!"
