A £56,000 revamp of Mill Road Playing Field in Market Rasen was officially opened on Saturday, April 19.
After more than a year of work and fundraising by Market Rasen Town Councillor Margaret Lakin Whitworth, she cut the ribbon to open the new multi-use games area (MUGA) and playground.
But Coun Lakin-Whitworth said this was only the beginning of works on Mill Road Playing Field and the council would now be working with the town’s youth to look at match funding a new BMX track.
She said: “The playground had been there for over 20 years so it was well past its sell-by date.
“It’s so good to have some fresh equipment up and installed for the little ones, but we also wanted something for the older ones so we have the MUGA.
“There is still work to do though and the next step will be the BMX track.”
Primary school age attending the opening on Saturday could get free ice cream and there was also music from the town’s Salvation Army band.
West Lindsey District Councillor Ken Bridger gave £500 of his councillor initiative fund to help pay for the days festivities.
