Trains services to Market Rasen will begin to run again shortly this afternoon after the service was suspended earlier when two people died in a train crash near Lincoln.

The pair were hit by a freight train at the Croft Lane level crossing in Cherry Willingham just before noon.

Emergency services attended the scene, blocking off Croft Lane to motorists and pedestrians.

Trains between Lincoln and Market Rasen were suspended.

The National Rail Enquiries website said there would also be “disruption between Lincoln Central and Barnetby until 2.15pm.”

British Transport Police (BTP) attended the scene, with colleagues from Lincolnshire police also present.

A BTP spokesman said: “Paramedics from the East Midlands Ambulance Service are in attendance and both people have been pronounced dead at the scene.

“Officers are now working to establish the full circumstances of the incident, which is currently being treated as non-suspicious.”

The Rail Accident Investigation Branch (RAIB) has been informed.
