UPDATE: massive hole closes Rasen Road

Police were forced to close the B1203 near the Sunnyside Up farm shop this morning, February 20, after a large hole appeared.

Representatives from the council’s highways department will be meeting with contractors at the site tomorrow, Thursday, and they hope to be able to reopen the road withing five days.

Steve Wiles, Area Highways Manager for Lincolnshire County Council, said: “We received a report this morning about a collapse on the B1203 road, near Tealby.

“On arrival, we immediately closed the road and set up a temporary diversion.

“Until we fully investigate the collapse, we can’t definitively say what has caused it. However, it’s likely that underground water movement has washed away the subsoil, undermining the road.”

The road remains closed between the Walesby turn off, coming from Market Rasen, and Youngs Garage at Tealby, although access is available to Sunnyside Up farm shop and tea rooms which remains open, when approaching from Tealby.

Diversions from Bully Hill Top and Market Rasen are in place.
