Town to get '˜state-of-the-art' CCTV camera system

West Lindsey District Council is installing cameras at the railway station, John Street car park, Festival Hall car park, the Co-Op car park and Post Office and at four locations along the high street.

Market Rasen mayor John Matthews said: “This is an important and welcome development for the security and safety of the businesses and residents of our town.”

Coun Matthews said Market Rasen Town Council had entered into a new agreement with WLDC for state-of-the-art CCTV cameras in the town.

And he said WLDC had secured funding so there will be no cost to Market Rasen, for the cameras, the installation or their maintenance.

WLDC is also upgrading CCTV cameras in Gainsborough - and says the new wireless transmission will save the council £20,000 a year in line rental costs.

The council’s enterprising communities officer, Grant White, is leading on the re-launch.

He said: “I am sure residents and businesses will be thrilled with the news as CCTV plays an important role in helping to prevent crime, anti-social behaviour, prosecute offenders and helps keep people safe.

“CCTV is also used for safeguarding incidents, to trace missing people and help keep traffic on highways flowing.

“The council is delighted to be working closely with Market Rasen Town Council on creating a fit for purpose CCTV system, which will benefit the local community.

“We would like to thank Market Rasen Town Council for its financial contribution to fund the monitoring of the system.

“This joint working complements our existing partnership arrangements, between the town council, district council and Lincolnshire Police.”

The cameras will record footage 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

And all CCTV operators will undergo training and vetting to use the CCTV cameras and keep people safe.

The new system will provide higher quality images to support identification of incidents and support prosecutions.

As part of the upgrade the council’s control centre is being refurbished to make use of new technology.

Delivery of the cameras is expected later this month.
