Tipping off council on Wolds waste worries

A Swinhope cyclist is urging people to help crack down on fly-tipping.

Barry Jordan has the council’s number in his mobile phone to report items as soon as he spots them.

“As a keen cyclist, I greatly enjoy exploring the many miles of delightful lanes that run through the Wolds,” said Barry.

“Unfortunately my enjoyment is sometimes spoilt by the thoughtless morons who take it upon themselves to dispose of their unwanted goods by dumping them in the countryside instead of taking them to one of the many excellent recycling centres run by our local councils.”

Over the past two years, Barry has come across a three-piece suite, builders rubble and chemical drums, car tyres and, now, a mattress on his rides.

“On every occasion I have reported the dumping to the council who are very helpful,” added Barry. “I cannot fault the council just the mindless idiots who can’t be bothered to take their rubbish to the tip.

“If, like me, you love our countryside then put the council number on your mobile and if you find an example of dumping then please give them a ring.

“Let’s all work together and keep the Wolds looking good so we can all enjoy them.”
