They’re doing the Mo Scott as Great North charity run looms

DOING THE MO SCOTT: Members of Brigg help Scott Worboys with his Mobot challenge

A CANCER survivor turned runner is getting ready to hit the streets again – and this time it’s personal.

In less than three weeks time, Scott Worboys from Cadney will be taking part in the Great North Run for a charity very dear to him.

“This time, I decided to raise money for Kidney Cancer UK – kind of making it personal,” said Scott, who underwent life-saving surgery to remove his kidney after being diagnosed with cancer in March 2010.

“I am ok now, so that gives me free rein to help others by donning lycra and running.

“Fundraising has been going incredibly well and the charity pot for this run currently stands at £860.

“It would be great to add a few more pounds to the total though; all donations will be welcome – £2, £20, £200, I’ll take them all.

“I really am grateful for whatever anyone can give.”

Since starting his charity runs – just five months after having his operation – Scott has raised £5,700 for a variety of cancer charities.

And it seems Scott is game for a laugh when it comes to adding cash to the pot.

A friend challenged him to do the ‘Mobot’ – the trademark finish for British Olympic double gold medal-winning athlete Mo Farah.

“He challenged me to do the ‘Mobot’ around the busy Brigg market,” said Scott.

“And the wonderful fellas from Brigg fire station (pictured) were among those more than happy to play along – it’s quickly becoming know as the ‘Mo Scott’.”

All in all, it has been a very busy year for Scott, but one that has also seen him struggle through a couple of injuries.

So far, he has completed the Lincoln and Caistor 10Ks, as well as two half-marathons at Silverstone and Hull.

“I even tried some bare-foot beach running in Cuba,” added Scott.

This Sunday, though, he will be running a little nearer to home – taking part in the Great Yorkshire Run in Sheffield, another 10K event.

After that, he will be
focussing on the Great North Run on Sunday, September 16, where he will be one of 54,000 runners in the world’s second-largest half-marathon event.
