Outstanding building and construction work across West Lindsey has been honoured at an awards ceremony, with a special prize going to a Tealby surveyor.

The Quality in Construction Awards 2016 was organised by West Lindsey District Council’s building control team to celebrate the standards of local projects.

More than 200 professionals in the building and construction industry attended the event, hosted by Lincs FM radio presenter John Marshall at The White Heather, Caenby Corner on Friday evening, April 15.

A special lifetime achievement award was presented to Miles Hardy - from Hardy Bros (Tealby) Ltd - who was taken aback by the surprise award, presented by principle building control officer, Trevor Durant, at the end of the night.

Miles became a partner in the business in 1981 having trained as a quantity surveyor at Nottingham Trent University.

WLDC chief executive Manjeet Gill said Miles’ award was chosen by the building control team. She said: “I’m told the team unanimously selected Mr Hardy for the quality of work he has delivered throughout his career. Much deserved.

“I would like to thank all the judges and all the finalists, as their achievements have really demonstrated real quality in construction.”

The Dunn Deal Tea Rooms in Nettleton was highly commended in the ‘best commercial building’ category and Sunnyside, Tealby, was highly commended for ‘best individual home’.

WLDC chairman Angela Lawrence said: “I have been very impressed by the quality and standards of projects outlined, which must have made it difficult to judge.

“It’s really inspiring to see some of the work that has been carried out around the district. I would like to congratulate all the finalists and the winners.”

The awards featured projects ranging from one off extensions, to large developments, education and commercial buildings, and individuals within the industry.

Mick Mattison, regional manager at Jacksons Buildbase, which sponsored the event, described the shortlisted projects as ‘top notch’ and said: “The standard of building in the area is fantastic.”
