A “selfless volunteer” who “works tirelessly, under
the radar” to help people in Market Rasen has
been awarded the town’s Princess Diana Community Award 2014.

Brian Marshall is the treasurer and standard bearer for the Tealby and Market Rasen branch of the Royal British Legion and also the treasurer and a lay visitor for the Methodist chapel.

But, his work in the community goes much further. Les Tranter, who nominated him for the prize, given annually by Market Rasen Town Council, said: “Where required he transports relatives of anyone in care of any sort to visit if they have no transport of their
own and also takes those that need it to hospital for appointments.”

Brian said he was very grateful for the award but still had time to joke: “I went into Lloyds last week and was told if I bought a book of raffle tickets I would be certain to win a giant Easter egg so when the phone rang about this award I thought I’d got the egg.

“What a privilege it is though to receive this.

“I’m receiving this, not just for me, but on behalf of the many of the councillors and other RBL members who do a lot in the community which goes unrecognised.”

He added: “25 years ago
I received the Queen’s Birthday Commendation for services
to the RAF.

“Now I’m receiving a commendation for services to the community and it means just as much.
