Safari tent plan to boost Wolds tourism

Luxury camping or ‘glamping’ looks set to make its way to the Wolds with plans for two safari tents to be erected at Claxby.

Christopher Jackson of the Old Smithy, Mulberry Road, has applied to erect the canvas tents, which he envisages will be “a small-scale tourist attraction.”

Two canvas safari tents would be erected in a paddock at the back of the Old Smithy. There would be parking for eight cars.

“We aim to provide a quiet and relaxing space for visitors to visit the Lincolnshire Wolds, at the same time working with local attractions to increase their business footfall,” he said in his planning application.

“The project will generate two part-time jobs to start with and also aim to provide work for young people. The site will be designed in a very natural way to maintain the meadow. We will be planting extra trees and wild flowers to gain extra habitats for local wildlife to flourish and give that close to nature feel,” he said.
