Ramsay bottles the F Word with local Brewer Tom Wood

Tuesday, 9am: CELEBRITY chef Gordon Ramsay has called on the expertise of local brewer Tom Wood to put the cork in with his F-Word.

The famously confrontational chef and TV personality bottled it – literally – when he met up with Mr Wood, whose business is based at Melton Ross near Brigg.

Viewers of Ramsay's Channel 4 programme The F-Word will tonight, Tuesday, see how Tom came to the rescue when it came to bottling Ramsay's home-brew.

He used a unique mobile bottling plant devised for bottling his newly launched spring water, but which has the versatility to be used in any situation.

Ramsay devised the beer with Scottish brewers Innis and Gunn specifically to accompany veal and then aged it in an oak bourbon barrel to give it a vanilla flavour but the tricky bit was getting it from the barrel in his back garden into bottles.

He searched and searched and eventually discovered that Tom had the technology for small scale bottling and after the brew was brought up to Grimsby for cooling, it was transported back down to London with the 44 foot articulated trailer bottling plant ready for business.

The process took place last month and after the brew and bottles went in one end, more than 100 330ml bottles of F-Word beer came out the other, labelled and packed up in cartons.

"I believe that we are the only people in the UK with a mobile bottling plant and it really proved itself on this occasion," said Tom.

The only problem was that I was too busy operating it to spend a huge amount of time with Gordon. He really was a fantastic guy though, just like he is on the TV, bubbly, energetic, enthusiastic and passionate about his food and drink. The guy is so inspiring, he's a complete and utter workaholic."

The beer is not to Tom's personal style, being a sweetish, non-hoppy brew at eight per cent, but said it had a rich creamy vanilla flavour. The bottles were given away to studio guests for tonight's show.
