Claudia Burkill, the eight-year-old who miraculously survived a rare cancer, is recovering after a cancer scare which looks to have been an infection.
Claudia, who was given the all-clear only last month, was rushed to Nottingham’s Queen’s Medical Centre last week, where she was discovered to have a 2cm ‘nodule’ at the top of her diaphragm.
Tests have still to give the all-clear, but the nodule looks to have been “a very severe infection”, reported the Claudia’s Cause Facebook page.
However, momentarily, Claudia did stop breathing and this week, she remained in the High Dependency Unit.
“She has her fight back and is more mobile and vocal than she has been in months. I even heard her cry, which was actually beautiful as I haven’t heard her cry for many months,” said Mum Annie Burkill, who days earlier had been fearing the worst.
“C’mon Claudia, you are made of strong stuff. You didn’t get this far by giving up and having watched you the last few days, you take my breathe away. I honestly doubt that I would or could ever be as strong as you. You refuse to give up, your body refuses to give up,” she said.
Despite Claudia remaining very ill, parents Annie and David Burkill are still progressing with the Claudia’s Cause Family Fun Race Day at Market Rasen on Sunday August 3.
“I know hundreds of you have already purchased tickets for the event. We are also pleased to announce that six of the seven races now have sponsorship for the day. However, if anyone is interested in sponsoring the remaining race, we request that you email firstname.lastname@example.org,” said the mum-of-four.
