Policing volunteer Brian picks up palace award

A Claxby man who has served more than 33 years as a special constable has been to collect his MBE for services to policing.

Special Sergeant Brian Hunter was honoured in the Queen’s Birthday Honours last June and he travelled to London with his wife Anita, son David and daughter Claire for the ceremony at Buckingham Palace, where he received his award from HRH Prince Charles.

“I felt very proud and honoured to receive such an award,” said Brian.

“It is a service to the community and I get great satisfaction in helping other people.”

But Brian is no stranger to awards.

He already is the proud owner of a long service medal with two bars for 30 years service to Lincolnshire Police, as well as the Queen’s Golden and Diamond Jubilee medals.

His work in the area was recognised last year by Market Rasen Town Council, who presented him with the Princess Diana Community Service Award in May.

And Brian has also achieved the Lincolnshire Police Force Annual Recognition Award for Officer of the Year in 2007/8 and again in 2008/9.

“The MBE takes pride of place over them all,” added Brian.

Having completed more than 18,000 hours service, Brian now has an indefinite extension to carry on in service, as long as fitness allows.

He is regularly out on duty on a Friday night assisting a small number of officers covering the largest geographical sector - West Division - of the county, providing back up and responding to a range of incidents.

In his day to day life, Brian runs his own electrical contracting business.

He is also a long-serving chairman of Claxby Parish Council, since being elected to the post in 1998, and is involved in Neighbourhood Watch.
