On two wheels for hospice aid

A FUN run on two wheels will help to raise money for a children’s charity.

This Sunday, September 2, sees the ninth annual motorbike run in aid of St Andrew’s Children’s Hospice – and organisers hope it will be the biggest and best yet.

“In previous years around 300 bikes have taken part and it would be great if people joined us again this year,” said main organiser Mike Lee of the Louth Friends of St Andrew’s Children’s Hospice.

“The hospice provides an invaluable lifeline to the families who use it and events like this are needed to help raise the money needed to keep it going.”

The run will set off from the Willingham Woods picnic area, on the A631 just outside Market Rasen, at 12 noon and head for the Red Lion at Redbourne.

Leaving there at about 1.15pm, the bikes will then travel to Nettleton Lodge – the pub in the wood – and travel on at about 2.15pm to the final destination The Royal Oak (The Splash) at Little Cawthorpe near Louth – a total distance of about 68 miles – where there will be a barbecue and grand raffle.

The entry fee for the run is £5 per bike and riders can join at any stopping point along the route.

All money raised by the event goes directly to the hospice, which provides care for children and young adults from across the county who have a progressive life limiting illness.

It currently costs around £1.5 million per year to keep the hospice open, of which only three per cent comes from statutory funding.

“The motorbike run is a fantastic day out which, over the years, has raised around £24,000 for the hospice,” said events organiser Angela Greenfield.

“We would like to thank all of those who have supported us
in the past and look forward to seeing old faces and new this year.

“We would also like to send a very special thank you to Mike Lee of the Louth Friends Group for the tremendous amount of hard work and effort he puts into organising the run; and to all of those who help on the day.”

For more information call Mike Lee on 01507 451100 or Angela Greenfield at the hospice on 01472 350908 ext 265.
