On right track to put town on TV

Market Rasen will feature on a BBC travel programme this week.

Back in April, former MP Michael Portillo stopped off in the town as part of the filming for series four of his popular series Great British Railway Journeys.

And this Friday, January 18, his thoughts on the town will be revealed.

The programmes see Mr Portillo travel the length and breadth of the country using Victorian cartographer George Bradshaw’s descriptive railway handbook as a guide.

Friday’s episode takes him from Spalding to Grimsby, so it is unlikely Market Rasen will get much airtime in the 30 minute programme.

Nonetheless, on his visit last April, Mr Portillo interviewed the Rev Michael Cartwright - and treated him to a pint in the Advocate Arms - so it is hoped that will be included.
