Nine arrested in Brigg following metal theft

Nine people have been arrested in Brigg in connection with a theft of metal in Grimby.

On Sunday June 1 police were called to reports that a very high value amount of copper had been stolen from Metropes Metals, Industrial Estate in Grimsby.

At around 9pm last night, Wednesday June 4, officers attended River View, Mill Lane in Brigg after it was suspected that the stolen copper may have been at this location.

When police arrived, supported by the force helicopter and the dog section, a number of people ran away. However they were very quickly located and arrested.

Police found a very large quantity of copper at the location, along with three mini dumpers which are believed to have been stolen from the Lincolnshire area. Enquiries are now on going to establish if the copper located belongs to Metropes Metals.

A 12-year-old boy, a 22-year-old man, a 21-year-old man, a 23-year-old man, a 34-year-old man, a 25-year-old man, a 46-year-old man, a 20-year-old man and a 33-year-old man were all arrested and currently remain in custody at Scunthorpe Police Station.
