Market Rasen care home reveals all

Don't miss the open day this Friday

Care homes across Lincolnshire open their doors this Friday to show neighbouring communities how they operate.

Among them, the Order of St John Trust, which operates 15 centres across the county, will open their homes, including The Poplars, in Market Rasen.

The event is to celebrate National Care Homes Opening Day, which by allowing visits for anyone, will give visitors a better understanding of what care provision and facilities are offered, with a chance to meet new people and change lives by volunteering.

As part of the day, the Trust’s Lincolnshire homes are organising activities and events for residents and visitors, including live music, coffee mornings and games, along with snacks and refreshments throughout the day like tea and homemade cakes.

Maxine Kennedy, Home Manager at The Poplars, says the day creates better links between care homes and the communities they serve.

“On Friday, our neighbours are welcomed to stop in and enjoy our Around The World in 24 Hours event with our residents. Not only will each of the room’s within the home be themed for different countries, but we’ll also be serving up themed buffets and drinks throughout the day from 10am to 4pm.”

“The Poplars is a 40-bed care home, just off of Chapman Street, with residents from all walks of life living under one roof. Our home stands out from others because we also provide specialist dementia care, complete with themed destination zones.”

Caroline Dunagan, Lincolnshire Assistant Operations Director for the Order of St John, confirmed such events help spread the word about what care homes do.

“By running events in each of our homes throughout the county, not just on National Care Home Open Day, but throughout the year, we hope to change perceptions of care homes across the board while enhancing the lives of our residents by providing regular occasions to get to know their neighbours.”
