Market Rasen’s Lawrence Cook is facing the black seat of the Mastermind Chair once more.
This time, however, the challenge has stepped up a gear for the 44-year-old organic chemist as he is taking his well-earned spot in the semi-final, after winning his heat back in December.
Last time out, Lawrence topped the scoreboard with his general knowledge and specialist subject of Heavyweight Boxing 1960-2000, in which he achieved a score of 11 and no passes.
This time round, Lawrence sticks with the sporting theme and has chosen to focus on ‘the life and chess of the eccentric genius Bobby Fischer’.
“He was the best player in history at that time, but also a paranoid schizophrenic,” said Lawrence.
The programme is scheduled to be aired this Friday, April 18, on BBC Two at 8pm.
