Inspirational dance teacher retires from De Aston

Friday 11am IRENE Moore, who has been an inspirational teacher of dance at De Aston School for more than 17 years, has left the school to teach privately.

A specialist dance teacher, Irene has been instrumental in instigating a wide range of projects for her students over the years.

De Aston was the first school in Lincolnshire to introduce examination dance into the curriculum both at GCSE and A level and every year it has seen students gaining full marks for units of work.

It also initiated and ran the first Lincolnshire Schools' Dance Festival in 1993 and De Aston students have performed in such venues as Lincoln Cathedral and Castle, the Theatre Royal at Lincoln, Lincolnshire Showground, Harlaxton Manor, Grimsby auditorium, The Festival Hall London, The Queen Elizabeth Hall London and Disneyland Paris.

Although there are many highlights in her long career at the school; the dance evenings, Rock Challenge events, being a winning school in the national BT Festival of Dance competition, writing the successful initial bid for the Artsmark gold award, working with the Drama, Art and Music departments on whole school musicals and performing in the Fantasyland Theatre at Disneyland in Paris are ones she will remember with pride.

Irene intends to continue teaching dance on a freelance basis and said: "I have enjoyed my time at the school and will miss the camaraderie of my colleagues and the commitment of the students to dance but look forward to spending more time undertaking projects in a subject I am passionate about.

"I would like to thank the parents and local community for their support over the years particularly Inspector Brant and the Market Rasen Police for Rock Challenge, Alan and Rosana of Special Edition Chocolates for sponsorship and the Rasen Mail for covering the vast array of dance events."

Her first project is organising an arts conference for teachers and arts practitioners at Lincoln University to which Andy Burnham, the Secretary of State for Culture, Media and Sport, has been invited to attend as keynote speaker.

For further information on this and other dance activities in the area including GCSE and A Level dance classes you can contact her via email at izzy3.moore@virgin.net or through PE Direct on 0844 800 9067.
