Indeterminate sentence for attempted murder at Brandy Wharf

Tuesday 11am A MAN has been sentenced to an indeterminate prison sentence for attempting to murder a woman at a caravan park at Brandy Wharf in July last year.

Paul Longdin (26), from Corby, will serve a minimum of seven and a half years for the unprovoked attack on Carol Crouch before consideration of whether or not it is safe to release him.

Mrs Crouch had been on holiday at the park when Longdin attacked her and stole her car.

Detective Sergeant Mark Blackbourn of Lincolnshire Police said: "This was an unprovoked attack on an innocent woman who was trying her best to help Paul Longdin in a neighbourly way.

"It was a terrifying experience for Mrs Couch who was stabbed several times. She lost a lot of blood and if the wound had been deeper or in a slightly different location, she could have lost her life.

"The incident has had a profound effect on her. She now worries about being alone and suffers flashbacks to the incident. Her physical wounds have healed, but the psychological aftermath continues.

"She is a brave and strong person and I hope she can now move on with her life."

Mrs Couch said: "I was in the wrong place at the wrong time. I was just trying to help him. He seemed like a nice, polite lad. I now worry about my security and have bought another dog to protect me.

"I have returned to Brandy Wharf and will be going back there again. I have no intention of letting this experience ruin my life."
