Thank you - that is the message from members of the Market Rasen Lions Club following an amazing response to this year’s Great Daffodil Appeal.
In partnership with Marie Curie Cancer Care, members of the Lions Club were out collecting at Market Rasen’s Tesco store last month to help provide free local nursing care to terminally ill patients in their own homes and Marie Curie hospices.
“Thanks to the generosity of local people we collected £502.69,” said Market Rasen Lions Club vice president, John Fox.
“Every penny collected by Lions Clubs goes direct to good causes as our membership fees cover any administration costs.
“This means our Daffodil collection will help fund 25 hours of hands-on nursing care within our area.
“We are proud to be at the heart of the community and our partnership with Marie Curie demonstrates how Lions Clubs offer vital support for local people”.
The Great Daffodil Appeal has huge public support and has raised more than £70 million since 1986.
Marie Curie Cancer Care chose Lions Clubs British Isles & Ireland to be its first official partner for the Great Daffodil Appeal last year to help raise an additional £1 million.
Lions Clubs International has 1.35 million members in more than 208 countries, making it the largest service club organisation in the world.
It has 17,000 active members belonging to 900 Lions Clubs located throughout Great Britain and Ireland.
Each club supports a range of projects in its local community, including health and youth initiatives.
