Honours plan for women who served in Land Army

ARRANGEMENTS are now being made to honour women who served their country in the Land Army.

As previously reported in the Mail, former members of the Women's Land Army and Women's Timber Corps are to receive an award.

Fifty ex Land Army Girls are today, Wednesday, getting their badges in a Downing Street reception with the Prime Minister and Environment Secretary Hilary Benn. Those who have already applied will be sent theirs together with a certificate in the coming weeks and events will then be held around the country to celebrate this formal recognition of the Women's Land Army's role in the war effort.

Over 29,000 applications have been made so far and only those ineligible for the badge have been advised.

You can still apply, yourself or on behalf of a relative by calling 08459 33 55 77 or writing to Dermot McInerney, Defra, 5E Millbank, c/o 17 Smith Square, London, SW1P 3JR.
