St Mary’s Catholic Voluntary Academy in Brigg is this summer celebrating half a century since the school was built in the town’s Grammar School Road.

To mark the occasion, the school is opening its doors to visitors with a series of events to be held in the first week of July.

Former pupils and anyone with connections to the school are invited to go along to meet old school friends, tour the school, visit a photography exhibition and enjoy – and even take part in – an open air concert.

Headteacher David Sidaway said: “St Mary’s has had a presence in Brigg for 140 years and, throughout that time, it has played an important role in the town.

“To celebrate 50 years at Grammar School Road, we are inviting anyone with connections to the school – past pupils, grandparents or former teachers - to come along and join in the festivities.”

The events begin on Friday, July 1 with a cheese and wine evening to be held in the school hall from 7.30pm to 10.30pm.

Guests are invited to bring a bottle and enjoy looking around the school.

The event is designed to be a chance to meet old school friends, take a trip down memory lane and visit an exhibition spanning school life from 1966 to present day.

On Monday, July 4 the school will be holding an open day.

Visitors are welcome to take a tour of the school to see it ‘in action’.

This will take place during school hours from 9am to 3pm.

Finally, there will be an open air concert at the school on Wednesday, July 6.
