A mother has paid tribute to her daughter, 21-year-old Laura Leanne Thompson, who died suddenly and unexpectedly in last week.
A fundraiser is being held in Laura’s home village of Binbrook to help towards funeral costs.
On Tuesday March 11 Laura was found in her flat in North Holme Road in Louth last week. She leaves behind her mother, Joanne, and her older brothers Christopher and Jason.
The cause of death is not yet known. Laura suffered from epilepsy, although it has since been ruled out as the cause of death. It is believed that Laura may have suffered from Sudden Adult Death Syndrome. An inquest will be held in due course.
Laura’s mother, Joanne, of Cumberland Terrace, Brookenby, paid tribute to her daughter who was “always the life and soul of the party” and will be sorely missed.
Joanne said: “Laura was well into her horses, and she loved going to the beach in Cleethorpes as well.
“She always wanted to go into working with kids, particularly disabled children. Kids really took to Laura.”
Joanne added: “Laura was the last part of her dad that I had left”, as her father, Tony, died when Laura was still a young child.
To help cover some of the funeral costs, Laura’s friends have organised a fundraiser which will take place this Saturday (March 22) from 2pm onwards, at Binbrook Village Hall. The fun day will include karaoke, and Laura’s friend Jason Laking will have his back waxed. It is hoped that £3,000 can be raised in total.
A fundraising page has been set up by family-friend Richard Trusler, with £565 raised so far. Visit the page here.
The funeral itself will take place at 1.20pm on Friday March 28, at Scunthorpe’s Woodlands Crematorium.
Laura’s family have requested that any donations go towards the ‘When You Wish Upon A Star’ charity.
Joanne said: “I’d like to say a big thank you to Richard Trusler, and to Lucy Rice who has been my rock during this difficult time.
“Thank you to everyone who has donated towards the funeral costs too. The response has been fantastic.”
