Flytipping an issue at Brigg station

Group member Paul Johnson spoke at the monthly meeting of Brigg Town Council, but it was the town’s North Lincolnshire Councillors who were most under fire.

“There is an ongoing problem with fly tipping in the area,” said Mr Johnson.

“North Lincolnshire own the land and are responsible for its upkeep. The situation is now at frustration point.”

North Lincolnshire Councillor Rob Waltham responded by saying there are plans to redevelop the area and the council is currently waiting for the architect’s response.

He also responded to criticism of Thursday traders in the area from Mr Johnson.

“We need to make sure they clean up,” said Coun Waltham.

“Some fly tipping comes from the market, but the auction is an asset that brings people into Brigg on a Thursday. ”

Coun Waltham also urged people to report any fly tipping in the station area to the council.

Town clerk Claire Davis has met with the police to discuss a security camera being installed at the station.

Mr Johnson suggested the introduction of a fence until the long term development improvements take place.

Coun Penny Smith told the chamber: “Saturday is the one day we have trains.

“Something has to be done about this and patience is wearing very thin with North Lincolnshire Council.”
