Crafts, music, history on display at churches

FOLLOWING on from last weekend’s Churches Festival, the second weekend focuses on the western side of West Lindsey.

Among those opening their doors will St Peter’s at Glentham, with a display of village crafts, and a cake sale and Hackthorn, where there will be a display of the local history group’s achievements over the past year, tracing ancestors and social history.

Exhibits from the past will also feature, along with flowers, at Bishop Norton, explaining the new build and local finds or artefacts.

Flora and Fauna is the title of the display being held at Owmby by Spital, with nearby Normanby hosting an exhibition of work by the local art group.

An organ trail will see recitals at five churches – including Spridlington from 12 noon to 12.30pm, Owmby by Spital from 1pm to 1.30pm and Hackthorn 2pm to 2.30pm.

Visiting organists will also be playing at various other churches off and on throughout the weekend.

The weekend also gives the opportunity to see the many beautiful stained glass windows and effigies in these magnificent buildings.

And sustenance for visitors throughout Saturday and Sunday will available at many of the churches too, with everything from sandwiches to sausage rolls and soup to spuds on offer.

For full details of the festival, pick up at brochure at participating churches or log on to www.churchesfestival.info .
