Councillors vote no increase in precept

Brigg Town Councillors have backed a standstill budget for 2013-14.

At their monthly meeting, Coun Mike Campion said no increase in the town council precept was the sensible thing to do in the present economic climate.

This means residents will pay exactly the same Brigg Town Council rate for 2013-14 as they did in 2012-13.

“We feel the town council provides good service to the people of Brigg and that they get value for money,” said Coun Champion, chairman of the policy committee.

“We are an active council and do things and I think residents get an excellent deal from us.”

The total town council precept will be £118,000.

From this the council is planning to spend an additional £500 on Christmas lights.

A major change in calculations this year was the government only delivered 90 per cent of the town and parish precept levied in North Lincolnshire.

In the event every parish retains its precept at the same level, North Lincolnshire Council will be providing a subsidy of £180,000 in the new fiscal year.

North Lincolnshire has already indicated its share of the council tax will remain at the same level as in the fiscal year ending in March.
