A year of celebration has resulted in more than £2,000 being raised for local charitable organisations

Market Rasen Methodist Church presented cheques totalling £2,100 at the end of its 150th anniversary year, which has seen a variety of events held to celebrate this landmark, including a visit by the leader of the national church.

“We wanted to thank God for the last 150 years by helping other groups in the town,” said minister the Rev Andrew Lomax.

To represent different age groups in the community, Market Rasen Scout group, the local Alzheimer’s support group and the Poplars Nursing Home residents’ fund were chosen.

And everyone was delighted with the amount raised through the generosity of people who shared in their celebrations.

“It would have been easy for the church to focus on itself and simply raise money to help cover the cost of what is an incredibly expensive building to service,” added the Rev Lomax.

“But the members have been sacrificially generous, giving a considerable amount of their time and money to make the year a success.

“It is a tribute to them that our celebrations have gone so well and we have been able to make these presentations.”
