Brigg cadets are taking their fundraising challenge lying down

A team of Brigg Air Cadets are taking part in a sponsored stretcher run this Saturday, February 22.

The challenge is part of the requirements of the Junior Leader course being undertaken by Cadet Ozzie Lennon and will see the 17-year-old lead his fellow cadets on the 30-mile trek from squadron HQ to the Humber Bridge and back again.

They will be setting out at around 10am.

The team of six will be made up of Cadet Flight Sergeant Lee Chapman (19), Cadet Flight Sergeant Calum Franks (17), Cadet Sergeant Matthew Hoare (16), Cadet Corporal Alex Zimmerman (17) all helping Ozzie, along with the youngest member of the team Cadet Harry Cook (13).

Money raised from the event will go to the John Thornton Young Achievers Foundation (JTYAF).

John Thornton himself was a Junior Leader just like Ozzie.

John tragically died fighting in Afghanistan in 2008 and the JTYAF was set up to honour John’s life.

The foundation supports young people in a wide range of youth organisations and provides them with scholarships to support their personal development and the pursuit of their ambitions.

If any local businesses, or individuals, are prepared to sponsor Ozzie and his fellow cadet colleagues in this challenge, contact Officer Commanding 2222 Sqn at oc.2222@aircadets.org - any donations towards the JTYAF and the Squadron would be most welcome.
