New Partnership to tackle families from hell
Saturday 12noon West Lindsey District Council, the City of Lincoln Council, Boston Borough Council and Lincolnshire Children's Services have entered into a new partnership to identify and challenge chaotic families in Lincolnshire.
Almost 200,000 of funding has been provided by the Department of Children Schools and Families and Lincolnshire County Council for a two year project. The partnership will establish a specialist team based within West Lindsey's Community Safety Unit to work with the families.
This money will be added to funds made available by the West Lincolnshire Community Safety Partnership of 48,667 in this financial year, 149,333 next year, and 99,000 in 2011/12.
All the families involved in the project will be at risk of enforcement action from one or more of the partners.
Chairman of the West Lincolnshire Community Safety Partnership, Cllr Geoff Wiseman said: "We will change behaviour to enable 'chaotic' families to live independently in communities and improve the quality of life for those families. We also aim to improve the quality of life for families in the wider community who are 'victims' or witnesses to the behaviour of the 'chaotic' families."
Portfolio holder for Housing at the City of Lincoln Council, Cllr Alister Williams said: "I'm really pleased that some of this funding is coming to Lincoln. By supporting individual families with their specific needs, the knock-on effect will be beneficial to the whole community."
The project will create seven new jobs – a manager, five key workers and an administration assistant.
Cllr Wiseman said: "The key workers will co-ordinate services, identify issues within households and make sure all appropriate action is taken. It is fantastic news that our bid has been approved and we will be advertising for staff very soon and hope to have the team in place by the end of March and be making a real difference to the lives of the families and the communities concerned very soon after that."
The project aims to:
? Reduce anti-social behaviour and incidents of offending behaviour
? Prevent repeat cycles of homelessness and provide sustainable routes back to settled housing for homeless families
? Improve children and young people's attendance and behaviour at school, reducing the level of truancy and exclusion
? Help achieve the five "Every Child Matters" outcomes for children and young people
? Reduce the prevalence of teenage pregnancy and tackle broader sexual health issues.
? Reduce alcohol, drug and volatile substance abuse of both children and young people
? Reduce the number of young people not in education, employment or training.
? Assist parents to learn new skills and gain employment
? Help to deliver the Government's priority of halving Child Poverty by 2011, as a milestone towards eliminating it by 2020 and improving child support
The partnership also includes Lincolnshire Police, Lincolnshire Youth Offending Service, Acis Group, Boston Mayflower Ltd, Axiom Housing and Lincolnshire PCT.
