Grumble and you get no pool - warns West Lindsey leader

Friday 2pm. THE LEADER of West Lindssey District Council has said his 'top priority' is to deliver a swimming pool for Market Rasen.

Speaking to members of the town council, Coun Adam Duguid said he planned to make an announcement about the swimming pool project on March 1, when West Lindsey presents it 2010/11 budget, but he warned that original plans for a 5 million pool were no longer financially viable and if the town held out for such a project, they were not likely to get anything.

He said he felt he could deliver the pool the town has been campaigning 50 years for, in the form of an outdoor lido believed to cost in the region of 3 million.

"Trust me! If you support this design for the pool I can deliver it," he said.

"It is an exciting development, but if you hold out for a 5 million indoor pool which will also cost a fortune to maintain, it will not happen.

"The site of this pool will be appropriate and the cost within budget. But if you grumble you will get nothing," he said.

* The plans are for an outdoor lido open in the summer and which can be covered over so that it can be kept open in the winter.
