Fortnightly bin collections to start in September
Sunday 9am BLACK bins will be collected just once a fortnight from September, following a successful pilot scheme being run at Caistor and Keelby since April.
More than 2,100 homes in Caistor and Keelby began alternate weekly collections on April 6 – and the new service has gone like a dream, according to bosses at West Lindsey.
Not only has there not been a single complaint made to any of the collection crews, but the recycling rate shot up from just over 40 per cent to well over 60 per cent in the first few weeks of the pilot.
After a second pilot scheme which is planned for Cherry Willingham, the new system will be introduced to all remaining West Lindsey areas during September.
The Triple Bin Scheme sees black bins emptied one week and blue recycling and green garden waste bins emptied the next.
Chairman of the Community and Waste Services Committee, Coun Irmgard Parrott, said: "Until now, green bin garden waste collections have been a paid for service, but the introduction of the Triple Bin scheme means they will become free to everyone in the district.
"Over 65s qualify for the free green service now - before the Triple Bin scheme is rolled out across the district in the autumn."
A district-wide questionnaire resulted in 79.2% of people who replied saying they would support a Triple Bin collection service.
Coun Parrott said: "We do understand that this new system is a major change for everyone and that change can sometimes bring concerns.
"That is why we have a dedicated team of recycling advisors visiting homes in the area explaining exactly how the new system will work."
The council has also sent residents a list of frequently asked questions and has posted more information on its website at www.west-lindsey.gov.uk/triplebin.
